Ballybunion
“I consider it a true test of golf.” Those are a few of the words Tom Watson used to describe the Old Course at Ballybunion, certainly one of the standards of links golf in the world today. Treeless and harsh in appearance, buffeted by ocean winds, Ballybunion is a sure test of skill amid the duned coastlands of southwest Ireland. There are no frills here, no manmade tricks – just the land as time and water and the wind have sculpted it: a formidable yet fair challenge to our notions of what it takes to play the game against the constructions of nature.
