Cherry Hills
Arnold Palmer fans may be particularly interested in the Stonehouse image of Hole No. 1 at Cherry Hills. Arnold drove this green in the final round of the 1960 U.S. Open, beginning a miraculous charge from seven strokes back to win the tournament, his only U.S. Open victory. Three U.S. Opens have been played at Cherry hills, along with two PGA Championships, a Senior Open, a Women’s Open, and a U.S. Amateur Championship, won by Phil Mickelson in 1990. By the way, in 1974 Arnold Palmer returned to Cherry Hills, this time in charge of course renovations. He added 58 yards to the first hole, all but eliminating the possibility of driving the green again.
