Colonial
No one thought Bentgrass greens could survive the Texas heat until Marvin Leonard decided to build this golf course in Fort Worth in 1936. By 1941, the Colonial, as it came to be known, had hosted a U.S. Open, and since 1946 it has been the permanent home of the Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial, whose plaid-jacket champions have included notables such as Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and Zach Johnson. Designed by John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell, this 7000-yard track holds the distinction of being the course where Annika Sorenstam competed in a PGA event, the first woman to do so since Babe Didrickson Zaharis in 1946.
