Crooked Stick
The course at Crooked Stick has earned many distinctions since it opened in 1965, but it is perhaps best-known as the venue that hosted John Daly’s historic victory at the 1991 PGA Championship. Daly, a ninth alternate player, managed to dazzle field and spectators with a first round score of 67, despite not having played a practice round. Even with a practice round, this Pete and Alice Dye design offers continual shifts in hole direction and length to challenge any player’s “poise, courage and intelligence,” as well as shot-making ability. If you’re fortunate enough to play a round at Crooked stick, bring all your clubs… you’ll need every one of them.
