Old Head
The Old Head peninsula in southwest Ireland is ground that has witnessed conflict since the Normans invaded in 1169. Today the confrontations at Old Head aren't carried on by nations, but by golfers – golfers who face challenges imposed by both man and nature. The craggy, treeless course design by Dr. Joe Carr, Eddie Hackett and Ron Kirby demands precision, but it's the weather that really rules scoring. Rounds begun in calm conditions can quickly turn upside down with the sudden appearance of gale-force winds and rain, and fog dictates a complete halt to play, lest players walk off adjacent cliffs into the sea.
