Royal Liverpool

“Far and Sure.” That’s the club motto at the Royal Liverpool Golf club at Hoylake, one of England’s best courses, and the country’s second oldest seaside track. Built in 1869, Hoylake, as it’s known locally, received its “Royal” designation in 1871 from the Duke of Connaught, one of Queen Victoria’s sons. Its flat and spare appearance is deceptive, for the course offers a challenging links layout, with tough seaside holes, numerous but strategic OB markers, and well-bunkered, sloping greens. In testament to her fickle nature, Royal Liverpool has played host to 11 Open Championships, a walker Cup, a Curtis Cup, and numerous amateur tournaments.
