Royal Troon
Local experts have long advised players at Troon to make their scores on the front (outward) nine holes, for the prevailing northwesterly wind offers nothing but heartache on the inward nine. A challenging stop on the Open Championship rotation, Royal Troon provides both the longest and the shortest holes in championship play: the 605-yard, par-5 6th, nicknamed “Turnberry,” and the 123-yard, par-3 8th hole, called “Postage Stamp,” captured here in panoramic image by photographer Patrick Drickey. This demanding hole gives no quarter; tee shots must find the green or disaster follows. “Postage Stamp” is one of the Open Collection’s most recognizable holes, and certainly one of the most formidable.
