Sandpines
Named “Best New Public Golf Course in America” by Golf Digest when it opened for play in 1993, Sandpines continues to draw golfers to an area dominated by newer venues such as Bandon Dunes. The reason is simple: Sandpines is a Rees Jones course, compared favorably to Spyglass by many players who enjoy the combination of high dunes and pine forest. Although located a mile from the ocean, Sandpines has the feel of the Monterey Peninsula, with lakes and undulating but generous fairways that stimulate the senses as well as the swing. And wind? Afternoon breezes can run a constant 25 to 30 mph, sufficient to place an absolute premium on club selection.
