TPC Sawgrass
If there’s a more recognizable golf hole than No. 17 at Sawgrass, we’d love to know. The world-famous island green is the signature hole at TPC Sawgrass, and the star of the Player’s Championship every year, when 11 TV cameras are set up to capture every splashed ball and player grimace. The design of the hole is actually an accident; a crater around the green was the result of sand removal during construction, and Pete Dye’s wife Alice suggested filling it with water, an idea Dye didn’t like at the time, but tried anyway. Voilà… a happy accident, and the 132-yard, par-3 fan favorite was born.
