Hole Description
Nobody thought Bentgrass greens could survive in the Texas heat until Marvin Leonard decided to build his own golf course in Fort Worth in 1936. The Colonial, as it came to be known, not only boasted Bentgrass greens, by 1941 it had also hosted a U.S. Open, and went on to become the home of the Colonial Golf Tournament, whose champions over the years included notables such as Ben Hogan, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw and many others. Designed by John Bredemus and Perry Maxwell, this 7000-yard track owns the distinction of being the course where Annika Sorenstam competed in a PGA event, the first woman to do so since Babe Didrickson Zaharis in 1946.
