Hole Description
Like the Apache leader for whom it’s named, the Geronimo Course at Desert Mountain has earned an intimidating reputation. With a layout that includes boulders, deep washes, ravines and desert landscape, it tests each player’s shot commitment, beginning with the 570-yard, par-5 opening hole. Even designer Jack Nicklaus describes Geronimo as “strong-looking,” although many of the course’s threatening carries are mitigated by safer routes for the less secure player. One thing is certain: Geronimo, for all its fierceness, is a magnificent tribute not only to the game of golf, but to its heroic predecessor and the natural beauty of his native land.
