Hole Description
After matching wits with narrow fairways and scores of mature trees for 15 holes over hilly terrain, one is almost thankful to reach a par 3.
That is, until the golfer eyes the 16th on the Golden Course at Golden Horseshoe. There has been no breather to this point and so dont expect one now.
The green is huddled amid traps surrounded by a pond. The 160 yard distance will be all carry and there can be swirling winds to play tricks with tee shots. Under normal circumstances a middle iron is all the golfer should need, but this hole frequently causes doubts and misgivings. If there is any margin for error, its found in the traps or a ball that is just a little bit long. As is usually the case, a good short game is required not only on the 16th, but virtually all the holes at Golden Horseshoe.
This Robert Trent Jones course opened for public play in 1960 and has done nothing but age and improve and stymie legions of golfers in the years since.
