Hole Description
With apologies to Dickens, the par 4 11th on The Classic Course at Maddens Resort is a tale of two holes.
Golfers daring enough to tee it from the Tour tees may rue their bravado because, at 448 yards, no less than two full shots plus the ability to work the ball is a requirement. Even long drives may not reach the corner of this dogleg right. The player who ends up in this predicament has no other option than to cut the ball around the omnipresent stands of trees to a well bunkered green.
Those who play from the more forward tees (340+ yards) will find the hole eminently more playable. In fact, less than a driver may be needed off the tee because the only issue is to get by the corner. The reward is a much more manageable approach shot to a large yet narrow green. Many a player who drove the ball well here has been humbled when their second shot ended in one of the numerous greenside traps.
The Classic at Maddens Resort has placed Northern Minnesota squarely on the destination golfing map. It is a course well worth playing on a repeated basis. Dont forget any clubs, though. Youll need them all.
