Hole Description
Four nine-hole courses make up the layout of Montclair Golf Club, recognized as the 13th oldest golf club in the U.S. The courses can be played in any combination, but all begin at the top of a hill near the clubhouse, so the first tee shot at Montclair is always downhill. Although an exact beginning date for the club is difficult to pin down, the club’s first year is recorded as 1892, and the first 18-hole course was built in 1899, based on a design by Tom Bendelow. In 1920 Donald Ross was called upon to design 27 holes, and consequent improvements to the courses have been performed over the years by member Robert Trent Jones and his son, Rees. Talk about a blue ribbon design pedigree…
