Hole Description
The willow oaks lining the driveway of Old Waverly invariably draw comparisons with Augusta, but there’s at least one important difference between the two clubs: While Augusta has attracted attention for its lack of female membership, Old Waverly has been widely praised for its support of women’s golf events. In 1999 the club welcomed the U.S. Women’s Open, won by Julie Inkster, and in 2006 it hosted the USGA’s Women’s Mid Amateur Championship. The course even has a hole named “Heather’s Heaven,” after the late LPGA standout Heather Farr. However, as this Stonehouse image of No. 18 plainly shows, the course design by Robert Culp and Jerry Pate offers small concession to either gender.
