About Pebble Beach No. 7

At 107 yards from the guest tees, #7 at Pebble Beach has captivated golfers as one of the most recognizable holes in all of golf. On calm days, a short iron is enough. But when ocean breezes are full, club selection is guesswork at best.

While not long by any standard, #7 is nothing if not the essence of golf. Resting on a westernmost point on the course, the hole is framed by the surf of Carmel Bay. As if the elements alone are not challenge enough, few other holes in the world bring the golfer's emotions into play, too. This is #7. Hit it well.

Pebble Beach Golf Links opened for play in 1919. Jack Neville and Douglas Grant designed the course, which has changed little over the years. The reputation and influence of Pebble Beach on decades of golfers - and course architects - cannot be overestimated. It is an icon of American golf.
