Hole Description
Byron Nelson’s only U.S. Open victory happened on this course, thanks in part to Sam Snead’s triple bogey on the 18th in 1939. But Spring Mill also hosted the 2003 U.S.G.A. Women’s Amateur and co-hosted the U.S.G.A. Amateur in 2005 - testaments to William Flynn’s original 1927 course design. His masterful use of water, trees and the terrain’s natural contour imparts an individual character to every hole, and the placement of bunkers ups the ante on all approach shots. Of all Spring Mill’s defenses, Flynn’s sand strategy is the most formidable, amply illustrated in this Stonehouse panoramic image.
