Hole Description
Although it didn’t open for public play until 1995, the Presidio Golf Course in San Francisco bears the distinction of being one of the oldest courses in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. It was built in 1895 by a group of San Francisco businessmen under the auspices of the Presidio base commander, and it operated for years as a private club. The original course designer was Robert Johnstone, but over the years many course architects, including William McEwan and the firm of Fowler & Simpson have contributed their skills to the Presidio’s hilly, narrow, Eucalyptus-and-pine-bordered fairways. Given its scenic layout overlooking the city, the historic Presidio Golf Course qualifies as a ‘must-play’ Bay area golf experience.
