Hole Description
Portrush is the only course outside of England and Scotland to host the Open Championship, and its preeminent status among the best links layouts in the world stems from designer Harry Colt’s exquisite routing among parallel sets of dunes to create narrow, bending fairways that place a premium on accuracy from the tee. Breathtaking views of Northern Ireland’s White Rocks Beach and the 13th century Dunluce castle provide abundant visual distractions during a round, but a player is well-advised to take special note of the wind when making shots – errant balls are seldom found in the thick meadow grass that carpets every dune. Royal Portrush is a supreme examination of skill, as club members Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell can attest.
