Hole Description
Winged Foot is truly hallowed ground. Known by its members as simply “the Foot,” this magnificent club occupies land used as a campsite by Washington’s troops during the Revolutionary War. Since its formal opening in 1923, the club has entertained luminaries from around the world, ranging from kings to President Eisenhower, Bob Hope and Babe Ruth. Here golf is considered royalty, each hole meticulously crafted to reflect designer A.W. Tillinghast’s quote: “A controlled shot to a closely guarded green is the surest test of any man’s game.” With its combination of trees, bunkers, sloping greens and six major championships, Winged Foot surely belongs in the pantheon of America’s greatest courses.
