Streamsong Golf Resort, Streamsong, Florida : Brief Glimpse
Just south of Lakeland in central Florida is Streamsong Golf Resort, the latest in the Sunshine State’s great contributions to spectacular golf combined with luxurious resort accommodations. Streamsong boasts two impressive tracks, the Red and the Blue, each meticulously designed and crafted to provide unmatched scenery and exciting play. Both courses follow Streamsong’s “walk only” philosophy – the result of a combination of natural terrain and reclaimed land that once was the site of a phosphorous mine. Both are links-style venues; the Blue was designed by Tom Doak, whose belief in using natural features produced a magnificent coalition of elevation changes, water and tall sand dunes to challenge even the most skilled player. Playing at over 7,100 yards from the tips, Streamsong’s Blue Course provides, in Doak’s words, “dramatic (elevation)changes as the centerpiece to our golf holes.”
The Red Course is the product of Top 100 Course designers Ben Crenshaw and Ben Coore, whose vision produced a masterpiece of routing through a terrain of dunes, lakes, open grasslands, and natural bunkers. At over 7,100 yards, the Red has, “… some of the most unusual, interesting and dramatic land forms we have ever encountered…,” according to Crenshaw. “Different from anything we’ve ever worked with.”
Despite the acclaim already received, Streamsong is destined to get even better. A new course, the Black, under the skillful direction of Gil Hanse, is scheduled to open in Fall 2017.
