High-resolution, panoramic prints from various courses by Dan Murphy
Starting at an early age Dan became passionately interested a passion in two areas of endeavor: photography and aviation. He exposed his first roll of film at the age of six after his grandmother handed him a plastic 35mm camera, and from that point on he was hooked. He pursued this pastime throughout high school. Back then you’d be hard pressed to find him without a camera draped from his shoulder and a smile on his face, taking pictures for the school paper or yearbook. His interest in flying took root even earlier in life; ever since he can remember he has been fascinated with watching birds swoop and navigate through the air, but without feathers or wings he figured learning to fly airplanes would be his path to the sky.
Dan took these two passions to the University of Central Missouri where he refined his photo skills and earned his pilot license.
In the latter part of his college career an internship with the Omaha World-Herald changed his perspective about the way he made photographs. He discovered the power of capturing timeless moments, moments which separated his images from the commonplace. His experience at the World-Herald led him to a fulltime position at the Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake, Ill. Working at the suburban Chicago newspaper he continued to refine his eye and carve out a style.
Dan joined Stonehouse as staff photographer in June of 2012 where he began to travel the world, using his photographic skill to capture the beauty of the world’s finest golf courses.
In early 2013, Dan was named General Manager of Stonehouse. Despite his busy work schedule, he still manages to indulge his passion for flying, too – he tries to log countless hours of flight time every year.
