SPOTLIGHT ON PHOTOGRAPHER Pat Drickey

Pat Drickey

High-resolution, panoramic prints from various courses by Pat Drickey

Bio

In January of ‘68, Patrick Drickey witnessed the power of photography as photo journalists from every country gathered to record the war and show the world. He would watch the photographers come and go with cameras slung around their necks. To Drickey, it seemed like an adventurous way to make a living by recording history. That’s when he decided that was what he wanted to do.

Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Patrick came home with a mission and a camera. He learned everything he could about lenses, film, the darkroom and most important, light and how to use it. He apprenticed with commercial photographers, and worked with architects, artists and graphic designers, all the while discovering ways to solve visual problems. Gradually, he built a reputation for award-winning work in advertising and architectural photography, shooting images for a range of clients, including Cushman, Links Magazine and several leading architectural firms, including Sir Norman Foster.

In 2005 Jack Nicklaus named Patrick the official photographer for his “farewell” British Open appearance, and in 2010 a special limited edition of Patrick’s “Rainbow” image of the Old Course at St Andrews was selected to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Open Championship. Signed by all the players, it now hangs in the St Andrews Links clubhouse.
